Here’s a snapshot of our latest work in South Africa, Australia and online to build international action in using plants to make cities more liveable.
- John Rayner gave a presentation on the use of green roofs and walls in therapeutic settings at the Australian Therapeutic Landscapes Conference 2018 on the Gold Coast.
- Joerg Werdin, PhD candidate, took advantage of the excellent spring growth on the Burnley demonstration green roof as a location to film a webinar on biochar for green roof substrates for the Australia New Zealand Biochar Conference.
- Nick Williams attended the Urban Biodiversity and Design Conference in Cape Town, South Africa where he presented the paper ‘Designing and testing a plant palette for biodiverse streetscapes’. The paper reports on work with John Rayner, Caragh Threlfall, Jess Baumann and Lee Harrison for the City of Melbourne.
- Nick also presented at Northwest University in Potchefstroom, South Africa where there was a lot of interest in green infrastructure and water sensitive urban design research, in particular to improve township environments.
This work continues in late November, when Steve Livesley and John Rayner will contribute to the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations World Forum on Urban Forests in Mantova, Italy.
